St. Patricks Shamrock Pretzel Bites (Printable version)

Crunchy pretzel bites shaped like shamrocks with a sweet green candy coating and sprinkle accents.

# Needed ingredients:

→ Pretzel Base

01 - 90 small pretzel twists, approximately 3 per shamrock
02 - 30 mini pretzel sticks for stems

→ Candy Coating

03 - 12 oz green candy melts
04 - 1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening, optional for smoother coating

→ Decoration

05 - Green and white sprinkles or sanding sugar

# How to make it:

01 - Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
02 - Arrange three pretzel twists in a clover formation with their curves touching to create the leaf appearance. Position one mini pretzel stick at the base as the stem. Repeat process to create 30 complete shamrock shapes.
03 - Melt green candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl according to package directions. Stir in coconut oil or shortening if additional smoothness is desired for better coating consistency.
04 - Using a fork or spoon, carefully drizzle or spoon melted candy over each shamrock shape, ensuring all pretzel components are thoroughly coated and properly joined together.
05 - While candy coating remains wet, immediately sprinkle green and white sprinkles or sanding sugar over each coated shamrock bite.
06 - Allow pretzel bites to set at room temperature for 20 minutes, or refrigerate for 10 minutes until coating becomes completely firm to the touch.
07 - Once fully set, gently lift shamrock bites from parchment paper and arrange on serving platter.

# Expert advice:

01 -
  • They look impressive enough to impress guests but take barely any real skill to pull off.
  • No oven required means you can make these while handling other dishes without heating up your kitchen.
  • Kids can help assemble the shamrocks, turning it into a fun activity rather than a solo cooking task.
02 -
  • Room temperature setting takes longer than you think, so resist the urge to touch them before they're fully firm or you'll end up with fingerprints in your candy coating.
  • If your candy melts seem too thick, that splash of coconut oil is worth keeping on hand—it loosens them without changing the flavor or texture of the final bite.
03 -
  • If you can't find green candy melts, melt white chocolate and stir in a few drops of green food coloring—it works just as beautifully and tastes arguably better.
  • Press your shamrocks together on the parchment before dipping; this keeps them from shifting once the candy coating starts to set.
