Yogurt Bowl Winter Berries Spiced Crunch (Printable version)

Creamy yogurt with fresh winter berries and aromatic spiced oat-nut topping for a nourishing breakfast.

# Needed ingredients:

→ Yogurt Base

01 - 2 cups plain probiotic yogurt
02 - 1 tablespoon honey or pure maple syrup
03 - ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

→ Winter Berries

04 - 1 cup mixed fresh or frozen winter berries

→ Spiced Crunch

05 - ½ cup rolled oats
06 - ¼ cup chopped nuts
07 - 2 tablespoons sunflower or pumpkin seeds
08 - 1 tablespoon coconut flakes
09 - 1½ tablespoons maple syrup or honey
10 - 1 tablespoon coconut oil
11 - ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
12 - ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
13 - ⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg
14 - Pinch of sea salt

# How to make it:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F. Combine oats, nuts, seeds, coconut flakes, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt in a mixing bowl. Add melted coconut oil and maple syrup, stirring until evenly coated. Spread mixture on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, stirring once halfway through, until golden and fragrant. Remove from oven and cool completely to achieve optimal crispness.
02 - Divide yogurt equally between serving bowls, approximately 1 cup per bowl. Swirl in honey and vanilla extract if using.
03 - Top each bowl with half of the mixed berries and a generous portion of the spiced crunch topping.
04 - Serve immediately while the crunch remains crispy. Offer additional spiced crunch and honey on the side if desired.

# Expert advice:

01 -
  • The spiced crunch stays crispy even when it meets the soft yogurt, creating this wonderful texture contrast that keeps breakfast interesting.
  • You can make the topping in bulk and store it for days, turning mornings into a five-minute assembly rather than a full production.
  • It tastes indulgent enough for a treat but wholesome enough that you don't feel guilty eating it on a Tuesday.
02 -
  • Make the spiced crunch when you have time and store it in an airtight container for up to five days, turning breakfast assembly into a grab-and-go situation rather than a morning project.
  • If you add the spiced crunch to the bowl more than a few minutes before eating, it will soften and lose that crucial crunch you're after, so add it just before serving or keep it on the side.
03 -
  • Make a double batch of spiced crunch and store it in a glass jar where you can see it, because having it on hand makes breakfast happen more often than you'd plan.
  • If your berries are frozen, thaw them slightly before adding so they don't shocking the yogurt with cold, and you'll actually taste their flavor instead of just experiencing temperature.
